The festive season is one of the most difficult times of the year for women and children in domestic violence situations.  Existing physical, emotional, and financial pressures are intensified in already volatile relationships.  While many of us are winding down for Christmas, support services and charity organisations are gearing up in preparation for the increase in violent situations throughout the festive season.  Something we can all do is be a little more vigilant in our homes and communities for women and children who may need support during this time because often they will not reach out or ask for help.  Sharing a little extra love, hugs and kindness are gifts that could make a difference to someone’s World this festive season.  It costs nothing to Care.

It’s Written All Over Her Face

There’s sadness etched into the lines on her face
Of memories she holds and cannot erase
Silenced lips of faded passionate red
Conceal stories of violence she’s never shared
Silent tears escape the windows to her Soul
Her eyes have seen things that nobody knows
Secrets hidden beneath guilt and shame
Her life a creation of fearful choices she made

There’s sadness etched into the lines on her face
Of memories she holds and cannot erase
Her heartbeats echo through emptiness inside
From anxiety rising because it’s Christmas time
A time of great tidings, peace, love and Joy
Is just another celebration that violence will destroy
Happy families gather for festive fun and cheer
But for her it’s a difficult time of the year

There’s sadness etched into the lines on her face
Of memories she holds and cannot erase
She prays for a Christmas that’s violence free
As she places her children’s presents under the tree
Wrapped with sadness and tears the night before
Hurting inside coz she knows they deserve more
Her tears are not for the gifts they’ll receive
She cries coz she can’t give them Happiness and Peace

If I see sadness etched into the lines on her face
Of memories she holds and cannot erase
I will help her to share painful stories she hides
To release her emotions and thoughts in her Mind
I will tell her she’s loved and worth more than she knows
And with self-love and self-worth her courage will grow
I will tell her that through her trust and belief
Her children will experience Love, Happiness and Peace

Very best wishes to everyone for the festive season and beyond.  I wish you all an abundance of Love, Happiness and Peace.
